Because DWR withdrew its Certification of Consistency for California WaterFix, the Delta Stewardship Council’s Executive Officer Jessica Pearson dismissed the appeals because they no longer raised issues before the Council. Her action also lifted the ex parte restrictions that had prohibited its members and staff from working with the parties outside of the Council’s appeals process. To learn more, click here.

The Delta Science Program and California Department of Fish and Wildlife, with support from the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, received 62 applications for the Delta Science Proposal Solicitation. Common applications themes addressed monitoring, data management, and modeling, as well as interactions between stressors, managed species, and communities.

The mission of the Delta Science Program shall be to provide the best possible unbiased scientific information to inform water and environmental decision making in the Delta. That mission shall be carried out through funding research, synthesizing and communicating scientific information to policymakers and decision makers, promoting independent scientific peer review, and coordinating with Delta agencies to promote science-based adaptive management. The Delta Science Program shall assist with development and periodic updates of the Delta Plan's adaptive management program. California Water Code Section 85280(b)(4)

Coequal goals

The Delta Stewardship Council was created in legislation to achieve the state mandated coequal goals for the Delta. "'Coequal goals' means the two goals of providing a more reliable water supply for California and protecting, restoring, and enhancing the Delta ecosystem. The coequal goals shall be achieved in a manner that protects and enhances the unique cultural, recreational, natural resource, and agricultural values of the Delta as an evolving place." (CA Water Code §85054)
