2014 Bay-Delta Science Conference October 28-30

The 8th Biennial Bay-Delta Science Conference was held October 28-30, 2014 at the Sacramento Convention Center, 1400 J St, Sacramento, CA 95814.

This year's theme was “Making Connections.”

Management of the Bay-Delta Ecosystem is at a critical crossroads with political and regulatory mandates seeking new ways to manage water exports while restoring landscape-level ecosystem attributes and functions.  To support these activities requires that scientists make connections among external drivers, management actions, and ecosystem responses. Perhaps more critical, the scientific and management communities must make connections to ensure a two-way flow of needs, resources, ideas, and understanding.

The conference program featured oral and poster presentations.

Coequal goals

The Delta Stewardship Council was created in legislation to achieve the state mandated coequal goals for the Delta. "'Coequal goals' means the two goals of providing a more reliable water supply for California and protecting, restoring, and enhancing the Delta ecosystem. The coequal goals shall be achieved in a manner that protects and enhances the unique cultural, recreational, natural resource, and agricultural values of the Delta as an evolving place." (CA Water Code §85054)
