The Need for More Scientists

For this science conference issue of Science News, we have two questions for the price of one.

  1. Q: How long does it take for the Earth to revolve around the Sun?
A: One year. According to a special publication from the National Academy of Sciences, 49 percent—nearly half of all adults in the U.S. got it wrong!

  2. Q: How many hours a day do American youths between the ages of 8-18 average in front of video games, TV and computers (often allegedly multi-tasking)?
A: The answer is: seven-and-a-half hours a day.

Although the two are not necessarily related, clearly, there's a need for more scientists in our country. And science education.
