Delta Independent Science Board (Delta ISB) Update
At its October 28 teleconference Delta ISB members discussed their memo to the Council on the Delta Science Plan. The memo commends the Delta Science Program for preparing the Science Plan and urges prompt action on the Plan’s priorities by the Science Program, Delta Stewardship Council, other state and federal agencies, and nonprofit organizations. The Board approved the memo with edits.
The Board also approved an update to the Delta ISB Operating Guidelines to clarify the term of office. The guidelines now state that when a member resigns prior to the end of the five-year term of office, the term for the new member who fills the vacancy is five years from the date of the appointment.
During a joint Delta Stewardship Council/Delta ISB meeting, November 21-22, Council and Delta ISB members discussed incentives for engaging state and federal agencies in implementing the Delta Science Plan, and also discussed their reviews of the draft Bay Delta Conservation Plan (BDCP) Environmental Impact Report/Environmental Impact Statement set to be released Dec. 13, 2013. At the November 22 Council meeting, Dr. Stephen Brandt was approved as the newest Delta ISB member by the Delta Stewardship Council. Dr. Brandt will fill the Board vacancy created by the departure of Dr. Ed Houde.
At its November 22 meeting, the Delta ISB also discussed its work plans for 2014, its review of the BDCP Draft EIR/S, and progress on the Fish and Flows program review.
The next Delta ISB meeting is scheduled for January 16-17, 2014.
